    What is wind chill?▾

    Wind chill is how cold it feels on exposed skin when wind speeds up heat loss. At 20 °F with a 15 mph wind it feels like about 6 °F.

    How is wind chill calculated?▾

    This calculator uses the US National Weather Service formula from 2001. It applies at 50 °F (10 °C) or below and with wind of at least 3 mph (5 km/h).

    When is wind chill dangerous?▾

    At a wind chill of -18 °F (-28 °C) frostbite can develop on exposed skin in about 30 minutes, and at -35 °F (-37 °C) in about 10 minutes.
