Frequently asked questions
How do I write a check amount in words?▾
Write the dollars in words, then 'and', then the cents over 100. $1,234.56 becomes 'One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Four and 56/100 Dollars'. Draw a line after it to fill the rest of the space.
Should I write 'and' in numbers like 105?▾
In American English, 'and' is usually left out (one hundred five) and reserved for the decimal point on checks. British English includes it: one hundred and five. Tick the British option to add it.
Do you hyphenate numbers like 21?▾
Yes. Compound numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine are hyphenated: twenty-one, forty-five, ninety-nine — also inside larger numbers like three hundred forty-two.
How big a number can it convert?▾
Whole numbers up to 36 digits (up to 999 decillion) using the short scale: thousand, million, billion, trillion, quadrillion and so on. Every digit is converted exactly.
How are decimals written?▾
In plain words the digits after the point are read one by one: 3.14 is 'three point one four'. In currency mode they are rounded to cents: 3.14 dollars is 'three dollars and fourteen cents'.
