Frequently asked questions
How do I search for a word with missing letters?▾
Use ? (or _ or .) for each unknown letter. S??R? finds 5-letter words with S first and R fourth, such as SCARE, SHARD and STORY.
Can it solve the clue itself?▾
No — it matches letter patterns, not meanings. Use the clue to pick the right word from the list of words that fit.
What do include and exclude do?▾
Include letters must appear in one of the blank squares; exclude letters can't appear in any blank. They're handy when crossing answers rule letters in or out.
Which word list is used?▾
ENABLE, a public-domain list of about 168,000 English words from 2 to 15 letters. It doesn't include proper names, abbreviations or multi-word answers.
