Frequently asked questions
How does the Wordle solver work?▾
Green letters are fixed in place, yellow letters must appear somewhere else, and gray letters are ruled out. The solver checks every 5-letter word against all your clues and lists the ones that fit.
What about repeated letters?▾
Handled like the game: if a letter is yellow or green once and gray elsewhere in the same guess, the answer contains that letter exactly once. Two yellow/green tiles mean at least two.
How is the best next guess chosen?▾
Candidates are ranked by how common their letters are among the remaining words, in each position and overall, so the top guess tends to split the list the most.
What is a good Wordle starting word?▾
Words with common, different letters work well — CRANE, SLATE, TRACE or ADIEU (for vowels). With no guesses entered the list shows every 5-letter word ranked this way.
