    Frequently asked questions

What is a white screen used for?▾

As a soft light for video calls, selfies or makeup, to spot dust and stains when cleaning a monitor, to trace drawings through paper, to check for backlight bleed and dead pixels, or as a simple night light.

How do I use my screen as a light for Zoom calls?▾

Open the white screen on a second monitor, tablet or phone, go full screen, set a warm temperature (about 3000–4000 K) and raise your device brightness. Place it behind your camera, slightly above eye level.

How do I make the screen go full screen?▾

Press Full screen or the F key; press Esc to exit. On iPhone, Safari doesn't support true full screen for web pages, so the color fills the whole browser window instead — add the page to your Home Screen for an almost full-screen view.

    What does color temperature mean?▾

It's measured in kelvin (K): around 2700 K is warm, yellowish light like a bulb, 5000–6500 K is neutral daylight, and above 7000 K looks cool and bluish.

Can a black screen save battery?▾

On OLED screens (most modern phones and some laptops), black pixels are switched off, so a black screen uses very little power. On LCD screens the backlight stays on, so there's no saving.

Can I use it to test for dead pixels?▾

Yes — switch between white, black, red, green and blue in full screen and look for dots that stay the wrong color. For a guided test, use the dead pixel test tool.
