    Frequently asked questions

How does the random color generator work?▾

It picks random values for hue, saturation and lightness within the range of the style you choose, then converts them to HEX, RGB and HSL. 'Any' can produce every one of the 16.7 million colors.

How do I get random pastel colors?▾

Choose Pastel: colors get high lightness (about 78–88%) and moderate-to-high saturation, giving soft tones that work well for backgrounds, nurseries and illustrations.

What is a HEX color code?▾

A six-digit code like #0D9488 that sets the red, green and blue levels (00–FF each) of a color. It's the standard way to write colors in HTML, CSS and design tools.

Can I keep a color and change the others?▾

Yes — press Lock under a color, then Generate. Locked colors stay while the rest are replaced, which is a quick way to build a palette.

What is the difference between RGB and HSL?▾

RGB mixes red, green and blue light (0–255 each). HSL describes a color by hue (0–360°), saturation and lightness (percentages), which is easier for making lighter, darker or more muted versions of a color.

What can I use random colors for?▾

Design inspiration, brand exploration, art prompts and challenges, game or party picks, data visualization testing and teaching color theory.
