What size should a favicon be?▾
Browsers use 16×16 and 32×32 in tabs, Windows uses 48×48, Apple devices use a 180×180 apple-touch-icon and Android uses 192×192 and 512×512. This generator creates all of them.
What is inside favicon.ico?▾
The .ico file bundles 16, 32 and 48 px versions (stored as PNG) so each browser picks the sharpest size. Place it at /favicon.ico — browsers request that path automatically.
Can I use an emoji as a favicon?▾
Yes. Type an emoji in Letter / emoji mode. It is drawn with your device's emoji font, so it looks the same for all visitors once exported as an image.
How do I add the favicon to my website?▾
Unzip the package into your site's root folder and add the link tags shown above to the <head> of every page. In WordPress you can instead upload the 512×512 PNG as the Site Icon.
Why doesn't my new favicon show up?▾
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh the page, open it in a private window, or add a version query like /favicon.ico?v=2 to the link tags.
