How much weight should I gain during pregnancy?▾
It depends on your BMI before pregnancy: 28–40 lb if underweight, 25–35 lb at a normal weight, 15–25 lb if overweight and 11–20 lb if obese, for one baby (IOM 2009).
How much weight do you gain in the first trimester?▾
Usually only 1 to 4.5 lb (0.5–2 kg) in the first 13 weeks. Most gain happens in the second and third trimesters at a steady weekly rate.
How much weight should I gain with twins?▾
For twins the guideline is 37–54 lb at a normal BMI, 31–50 lb if overweight and 25–42 lb if obese. There is no official figure for an underweight BMI.
