Frequently asked questions
Are the teams really random?▾
Yes. Names are shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm using your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every arrangement is equally likely.
What happens if the names don't divide evenly?▾
Teams are balanced so their sizes differ by at most one person. For example, 10 people in 3 teams gives teams of 4, 3 and 3 — and which team gets the extra person is random too.
How does 'People per team' work?▾
It makes as many teams as needed so no team is bigger than the size you choose. 10 people with 3 per team gives 4 teams of 3, 3, 2 and 2.
Can I use it for classroom groups?▾
Yes. Paste your class list to make random groups for projects or games. Names stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
