    Frequently asked questions

How do you convert military time to regular time?▾

For 1300 and later, subtract 12 from the hours and add PM: 1500 − 1200 = 3:00 PM. From 0100 to 1159 just drop the leading zero and add AM (0930 = 9:30 AM). 1200 to 1259 is PM (noon), and 0000 to 0059 is 12 AM (midnight).

How do you convert regular time to military time?▾

For PM times add 12 to the hour: 2:30 PM becomes 1430. For AM times write the hour with two digits: 7:05 AM becomes 0705. The exceptions are 12:xx AM, which becomes 00xx, and 12:xx PM, which stays 12xx.

What is 1500 in military time?▾

    1500 is 3:00 PM. Likewise 1600 is 4 PM, 1700 is 5 PM, 1800 is 6 PM, 1900 is 7 PM, 2000 is 8 PM, 2100 is 9 PM, 2200 is 10 PM and 2300 is 11 PM.

    Is midnight 0000 or 2400?▾

Both are used. 0000 marks the start of a day and 2400 the end of the previous one, so 2400 on Monday is the same moment as 0000 on Tuesday. The military and most schedules prefer 0000.

How do you say military time out loud?▾

Say the hours and minutes as two-digit numbers followed by “hours”: 1430 is “fourteen thirty hours” and 0900 is “zero nine hundred hours”. Leading zeros are spoken as “zero”, and full hours end in “hundred”.

How do you calculate hours between two military times?▾

Subtract the start from the end in minutes. If the end is earlier (the shift crosses midnight), add 24 hours. From 2200 to 0630 is 8 hours 30 minutes. The Time between two times box does this for you.
