    Frequently asked questions

Does minifying change how my CSS works?▾

No. Only comments, extra whitespace and redundant semicolons are removed. Strings, url() values and meaningful spaces — in calc(), descendant selectors like 'a :hover' and media queries — are kept.

How much smaller will my CSS get?▾

Hand-written, well-commented CSS usually shrinks by 15–30%. Already minified files barely change. Serving it with gzip or Brotli compresses it further.

    What are /*! comments?▾

Comments starting with /*! are license or copyright notices that minifiers keep by convention. Untick the option to remove them too.

    Can I unminify CSS?▾

Yes. Switch to Beautify and paste minified CSS to get one declaration per line with indentation, including nested rules and media queries.
