Frequently asked questions
How do I convert text to binary?▾
Each character is encoded as UTF-8 bytes, and each byte is written as 8 binary digits. 'Hi' becomes 01001000 01101001. Emojis and accented letters take 2–4 bytes.
How do I convert binary to decimal?▾
Multiply each bit by its power of two and add them: 1011 = 1×8 + 0×4 + 1×2 + 1×1 = 11. Use the Number base converter to do it for numbers of any length.
Can I paste binary without spaces?▾
Yes. If the binary length is a multiple of 8 it is split into bytes automatically; the same works for hex pairs.
What is hexadecimal?▾
Base 16, using digits 0–9 and letters A–F. It is a compact way to write bytes: 255 decimal = FF hex = 11111111 binary.
