Frequently asked questions
What is the cron expression for every 5 minutes?▾
*/5 * * * * runs every 5 minutes. Use */15 * * * * for every 15 minutes and 0 * * * * for the top of every hour.
What do the five cron fields mean?▾
In order: minute (0–59), hour (0–23), day of month (1–31), month (1–12) and day of week (0–6, Sunday = 0 or 7). An asterisk means every value.
How do I run a cron job on weekdays only?▾
Put 1-5 in the day-of-week field. For example, 0 9 * * 1-5 runs at 09:00 Monday through Friday.
What happens if I set both day of month and day of week?▾
Standard cron runs the job when either one matches. 0 0 13 * 5 runs on the 13th of every month and on every Friday — not only on Friday the 13th.
Which time zone does cron use?▾
Crontab uses the server's time zone; GitHub Actions and most cloud schedulers use UTC. Tick Use UTC to see run times the way those systems will.
Does it support seconds or Quartz syntax?▾
No. This tool follows standard 5-field Unix cron (crontab, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes CronJob). Quartz and Spring use 6–7 fields with ? L W # which are not supported.
