Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate electricity cost?▾
kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1,000, then cost = kWh × price per kWh. A 1,500 W heater used 4 hours a day uses 6 kWh a day; at $0.17/kWh that's $1.02 a day or about $30.60 a month.
What is a kWh?▾
A kilowatt-hour is the energy used by a 1,000-watt device running for one hour. Electricity bills charge per kWh.
Where do I find an appliance's wattage?▾
On the rating label or power adapter (W, or volts × amps). Devices like fridges and air conditioners cycle on and off, so their average draw is lower than the label — a plug-in energy meter gives the real figure.
What is the average electricity price?▾
It varies a lot by country and plan — US homes often pay around 15–20 cents per kWh, while many European countries pay more. Use the rate on your own bill for an accurate result.
