Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy waist-to-hip ratio?▾
For women a ratio of 0.80 or less is low risk, 0.81 to 0.85 moderate and above 0.85 high. For men 0.95 or less is low, 0.96 to 1.0 moderate and above 1.0 high.
How do I calculate waist-to-hip ratio?▾
Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. A 70 cm waist and 95 cm hips give a ratio of 0.74, which is in the low-risk range for women.
Is waist-to-hip ratio better than BMI?▾
It shows where fat is stored, which BMI cannot. Belly fat is linked to heart disease and diabetes risk, so WHR is a useful extra check, but it is not a diagnosis.
