    How to use Slope Calculator

    1. 1Enter the coordinates of two points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂)
    2. 2Read the slope as a simplified fraction and decimal, and the line equation in slope-intercept form
    3. 3See the rise and run, distance, midpoint, angle and y-intercept, then copy the result

    Frequently asked questions

    What is the slope formula?▾

    m = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁) — the rise divided by the run. For (1, 2) and (4, 8): (8 − 2) / (4 − 1) = 6 / 3 = 2.

    How do I find the equation of the line?▾

    Use slope-intercept form y = mx + b: compute m, then b = y₁ − m·x₁. For (1, 2) and (4, 8), b = 2 − 2·1 = 0, so y = 2x.

    What does an undefined slope mean?▾

    The line is vertical (x₁ = x₂), so the run is 0 and division by zero is undefined. Its equation is x = constant. A horizontal line has slope 0.

    How is the distance between two points calculated?▾

    d = √((x₂ − x₁)² + (y₂ − y₁)²). For (1, 2) and (4, 8): √(9 + 36) = √45 ≈ 6.708.
