Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage raise?▾
Multiply your current pay by the raise percentage divided by 100 and add it to your pay. A 5% raise on $50,000 is $50,000 × 0.05 = $2,500, so the new salary is $52,500.
How do I find my raise percentage?▾
Subtract your old pay from your new pay, divide by the old pay and multiply by 100. Going from $50,000 to $53,000 is a 6% raise.
What is a good pay raise?▾
In the US, typical annual merit raises are around 3–5%. A raise below the inflation rate means your purchasing power still falls, while 10% or more is common when changing jobs or getting promoted.
