    Frequently asked questions

    How much should I tip?▾

In the US, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurants, with 18–20% common today and 20–25% for excellent service. Tipping customs vary a lot by country — in much of Europe and Asia a small round-up or service charge is normal.

    How do I calculate a 20% tip quickly?▾

Move the decimal point one place left to get 10%, then double it. On a 64.50 bill: 10% is 6.45, so 20% is 12.90.

Should I tip on the total before or after tax?▾

Etiquette guides generally say to tip on the pre-tax amount. Enter the tax in the options and tick 'Tip on the pre-tax amount' to do that.

    How do I split a bill with a tip?▾

Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. Use the + and − buttons to set the group size; each person's share appears instantly, and you can round shares up to avoid coins.
