Frequently asked questions
How does curving a grade work?▾
A curve adds points to every score. With the highest-score method the top score is raised to 100 and everyone gets the same number of points, so a class whose best score is 91 gets 9 extra points.
What is a square root curve?▾
Each score becomes 10 times its square root. A 64 becomes 80 and an 81 becomes 90, so low scores rise the most while a 100 stays 100.
Does curving change the ranking of students?▾
No. All three methods keep the same order, they only change how far each score is from the top. Capping scores at 100 can make two high scores equal.
