Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to type my password here?▾
The check runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript; nothing is sent to a server, logged or stored. For extra caution, test a password with the same structure instead of your real one.
How is password strength estimated?▾
Entropy is estimated from the length and the character types used, then reduced for predictable patterns such as common passwords, keyboard walks (qwerty), sequences (1234), repeated characters, years and 'Word123!' shapes.
What makes a strong password?▾
Length and unpredictability: 16+ characters or a passphrase of 4–6 random words, unique for every site. A password manager can generate and remember these for you.
What do the crack times mean?▾
Online attacks against a website are usually rate-limited (about 1,000 guesses per second). If a site's database leaks, attackers can try billions of guesses per second offline against weak hashes.
